CEO Ron Mohling announced that Greenville-based Southern Weaving Company, manufacturer of narrow webbing, has expanded its manufacturing capabilities through the acquisition of Jones Products, a company specializing in coatings for webbing.
This purchase will give Southern Weaving the ability to add value to its products. Coatings can enhance the performance of webbing, making it more abrasion-resistant, durable, waterproof, and cleanable, among other characteristics.
"The former Jones Products has actually been a valued Southern Weaving customer for many years, and we are pleased to combine forces with them to offer the market coated webbing," Mohling said. Mohling indicated that, within the next few months, the equipment will be transitioned from the Chicago area to Southern Weaving's Anderson, South Carolina facility.
Darryl King, Anderson plant manager, will lead the transition team. Some key personnel from the former Jones Products will relocate to South Carolina, and Southern Weaving anticipates adding up to six new employees as the coating business grows.
Southern Weaving has been in business since 1924 and has led the launch of technical textiles into many arenas, from brakepads for the Model T Ford, to composite layers for the shell of inflatable space structures. Its operation includes manufacturing facilities in Greenville, S.C., Anderson, S.C., and Collingwood Canada.
The company makes narrow webbing that serves various markets such as industrial slings, fall protection body harnesses, sporting equipment, and hydraulic hose sleeves. The coating capability will add value in those current markets, and allow Southern Weaving to enter some new markets.

RockShox Reverb Stealth dropper post
RockShox Reverb Stealth
RockShox’s Reverb adjustable seatpost marked a breakthrough moment for dropper posts; simply because it’s one of the most impressive we’ve had the chance to use.
Never a company to rest on its laurels, RockShox has just released the Stealth, a variation of the Reverb that allows for the hydraulic hose to be routed inside the frame, creating a much cleaner look than a hose dangling along the top tube of the frame.
To do this RockShox modified the internals and the hydraulic hose now exits from the bottom of the post allow it to be passed down through the seat tube. This requires modification to the frame, and so far only Trek and Scott have modified frames to be compatible with the Stealth.
Reverb Stealth will be available exclusively on select Scott and Trek bikes for Model Year 2012. Scott will spec the Stealth on the Genius LT 10 and 20, while Trek will provide specific model details in July.

Gates hose sleeving protects to 10,000-psi bursts
Gates has re-engineered its LifeGuard sleeving system with an additional layer of nylon reinforcement that increases worker protection for 4000- and 5000-psi hydraulic hose applications.
LifeGuard sleeving is specifically designed to protect machine operators from the hazards of catastrophic hydraulic hose failure due to line-of-sight hose bursts and pinhole leaks. It is an effective, economical alternative to costly metal shielding or re-routing of hose lines.
LifeGuard sleeving system
The new 4000-psi sleeve contains bursts up to 8000-psi and controls 4000-psi pinhole leaks for up to five minutes. The 5,000-psi sleeve contains 10,000-psi bursts and controls 5000-psi pinhole leaks.
The new Lifeguard sleeve construction has two inner layers of tightly woven nylon that elongate to absorb the energy of a burst or pinhole leak. A third outer nylon layer restrains the fluid and redirects it safely to the clamped ends. Fluids then exit the system via specially designed “channel” clamps at each end.
A noticeable pool of leaking fluid serves as positive verification that a failure has occurred so corrective action can be taken immediately. Gates LifeGuard sleeving correlates to a variety of industry standards including ISO 3457 and MSHA’s Accident Prevention Program.
