The catalogue will present over 20,000 new products, including the new Blackwoods Greener Workplace Range, complete with technical information, sizing and conversion charts.
The 1,800-page catalogue reflects “the Blackwoods commitment to service the ever-growing needs of their diverse customer base, with the addition of new technologies and the broadest range of workplace essentials available,” according to the company.
Product types featured in the catalogue include: Site Safety and Traffic Control; Industrial Fasteners; Welding; Abrasives; Personal Protective Equipment; Industrial Clothing and Footwear; Safety Products; Oils and Lubricants; Hand and Power Tools; Hygiene, Janitorial and Cleaning products.
The catalogue itself will be printed on FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approved paper, meaning it is from a sustainable source; Blackwoods says each step of the print, pack and delivery process has also been monitored and implemented to reduce the impact on the environment.
“To minimise the impact of the paper production, printing and transportation – Blackwoods has also taken the industry lead and purchased carbon offsets,” said Blackwoods.

Take a jetski and attach a massive hose to it. At the other end of the hose add a Flyboard with boots and nozzles. The Australians will soon be testing a wave energy generator off the coast of Victoria. The bioWAVE generator sways back and forth beneath the waves like kelp. As it does so it pressurises hydraulic fluid to create electricity that's sent ashore via undersea cable. If the swells are too large the unit lies flat against the sea floor for protection. It's a pity we can't just tap directly into kelp. Bio Power Systems has details.
SLEEK SWIMMERS: Swimming can be a real drag — the water clings to a swimmer's body and drag forces slow them down. With the 20012 Olympics coming up Speedo have released their Fastskin3 line of swimwear that claims to reduce full body passive drag by about 16%.
Suits feature compression zones designed to flatten the body to create a straight line. One drawback: it takes a swimmer between 15 and 60 minutes to actually put the suit on. The Olympic swimmers will just need to suit up in the morning and stay in the suit all day.
Wave pools aren't specially new, but their running costs are a problem. Wavegarden, high in the Basque Pyrenees mountains, uses a special underwater hydrodynamic mould that resembles a plane wing, to push a wave ahead of it, creating an inland spot for surfers. To counter the problem of energy reflecting off the sides of the pool and interfering with the main wave they've made sure the sides of the pool are angled away. Pro surfers rank the shape of the waves at Wavegarden as a 10, even though they'd like the waves to be bigger and more powerful. The designers say more power is simply a matter of money. It actually changed Earth's gravitational field enough to affect the orbits of the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment satellites 500 Km above Earth. Researchers can use changes in the orbits of those satellites to estimate the magnitude and location of huge earthquakes. Australian companies are sure to impress at this year’s 2011 Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam - the world’s largest trade exhibition of equipment, materials and systems for the international marine leisure industry.
Due to the size of the Australian group attending the show this year the Australian Pavilion has now moved to Hall 11. The Australian contingent includes a number of first time exhibitors at this show and they will be showcasing products that emphasise once again the quality, innovation, skills and excellence that has made the Australian marine sector a key global player.
Australia has been a country that has been least affected by the global financial crisis with a marine sector that continues to drive innovation and is attracting significant interest from global buyers who want the security of dealing with a resilient marine sector. The Australian government continues to support the marine export sector which contributes $1.2 billion to the Australian economy.
CEO MaryAnne Edwards said “AIMEX congratulate the Victoria and Queensland governments plus the Gold Coast City Council who are providing financial support to businesses in their state who are exhibiting at METS. This support ensures that companies continue to profile their products globally which is resulting in increased export sales for these Australian states.”

Quality testing is employed at each stage of the manufacturing process to ensure the end product is nothing but first class and worthy of installation in any sea going vessel. The system is available for motors from 20hp - 10000hp; and as an added bonus, regular cleaning utilises only fresh water – no chemicals are required to be used, and so no chemicals are released into the environment – saving our waterways.
Another first at METS is VuPlex. VuPlex is a highly effective and easy to use plastic cleaning & protective product ideal for the marine environment. VuPlex will keep all the marine craft plastics clean and protected, and if already damaged VuPlex can revive cloudy milky clears to a near new look, by leaving a fine layer of hard wearing product which will help protect from further damage.
After a very successful show at IBEX, Release & Retrieve Boatlatch systems will be showcasing their innovative product which is designed & manufactured in South Australia from 316 marine grade steel. The product will suit most aluminium, fiberglass wooden boats up to 9 meters. Used on charter boats, professional fishing boats,catamarans , pleasure craft, Government agencies such as Transport SA, Fisheries, Sea Rescue and the police. The system has 2 major parts, the latch sits under the winch plate, the other on the bow .It's designed for drive on/off trailers & will release & retrieve you boat providing added safety, security, and reduced ramp time.
FinScan is another innovative company exhibiting at METS again this year. 2011 has had a busy year for FinScan with the take up of the recently released IntelliCORE Digital Switching and Power Distribution System which they will be showcasing at METS. There has been strong demand for this product in a very short period of time which bodes well for the company and its product development objectives.

Disconnected: Getting the Internet into the hinterlands of Pennsylvania
Talk to officials in Washington, D.C., and in Harrisburg, and they'll say that a home without high-speed Internet access soon will be like one equipped with a rotary phone.
Billions of government dollars have been allocated to spread the benefits of Internet connectivity -- better jobs, better education -- with Pennsylvania securing hundreds of millions of dollars for broadband expansion in "underserved" communities where the Internet hasn't booted up.
By government standards, an "underserved" community doesn't have access to connections with download speeds of at least 6 megabits per second -- or fast enough to download a song in a few seconds or a movie in a few hours.
People in Pennsylvania are using various programs -- the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program, the Broadband Initiative Program, Enhancing the Backbone for Multi-Service Delivery, the Bona Fide Retail Request program -- to connect, or at least are trying to.
Their stories address this 21st-century form of disenfranchisement: the county racing to catch up technologically with arriving natural gas drillers; the businessman in the middle of the state who couldn't get four signatures needed for Internet access.
In the second part of this series, there's the young man in Philadelphia typing his way into the middle class and the computer scientist who's pledged to get him there. Together, they represent a shift in how we define the Web as a resource, all at a time when the Web keeps defining us.
The scenes don't fit an easy narrative.
