Eaton Announces PowerSource - a Strategic Mobile Field Sales Tool

Industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation has launched Eaton PowerSource, an interactive, multi-media mobile iPad app that delivers comprehensive information on more than 200,000 hydraulic products and makes it available anytime, anywhere to Eaton’s 400+ sales representatives and network of distributors. PowerSource enables these users to search, spec and create significantly improved selling opportunities.

By digitizing its extensive and dynamic product catalog on the PowerSource app for iPad, Eaton’s goal is to empower reps with always current and engaging content, such as 3-D parts modeling, promotional and training videos, and pricing configurations to help them sell smarter – and get a competitive edge.  Built for content consumption, the app is different from a website in that it takes advantage of the iPad’s unique mobile strengths - easy portability, portrait and landscape viewing modes, and multi-pane touch navigation. In particular, user adoption is not an issue compared to other PC or Web solutions due to the iPad’s popularity and cachet.

Said Eric Stager, Product Manager, Web and Mobile, Industrial Sector, Eaton Corporation, "The iPad sells itself, making user adoption a snap. The new app is also one of the first to be part of Apple’s new Volume Purchasing Program (VPP) for B2B apps.  We are excited to break new ground in the mobile space and demonstrate the value that the mobile channel can deliver not just for consumer apps, but for strategically connecting employees and partners, too."

The app makes it easier to keep the sales force and distributors updated on current product inventories in a centralized, cost effective and efficient manner.  It is automatically updated weekly and provides product information, technical specifications, competitor cross references, comprehensive catalog access, lead times, model code builders, hose assembly builders, Eaton Sales Resource and Distributor Locator and pricing.

The app is designed for use anytime, anywhere, and of particular interest, approximately 10 GB of data and files are pushed to every device weekly from the Antenna cloud and stored so that each rep can quickly access the most current information whether online or offline.  Some features such as email, GPS integration, and app synching require a connection .

First look: Kinesis Crosslight Pro6

This was the coded phone message road.cc got from Kinesis UK to let us know that their new disc-braked Crosslight Pro 6 that we snuck a look at the prototype of a few months ago was finally finished, in production, built up and ready for an exclusive look.

The Pro 6 is a cyclo-cross frame making full use of the UCI ruling allowing disc-brakes to be used in CX competition as it’s designed for discs, and discs only, with no purist-friendly cantilever mounts to be seen. Although its main objective is for racing it still comes with a full compliment of mudguard and rack mounts, and twin bottle bosses for off-duty options, but opposed to the majority of ‘cyclo-cross’ bikes vajazzled with accessory mounts that come with polite pedaling angles and handle a bit slack-jawed, touring bikes and hybrids in a trendy ‘cross bike guise if you will, the Pro 6 is a set of tubes with a fast race-specific geometry, something Crosslight are very good at with a long and proven ‘cross winning history.

The guys at Kinesis are convinced that discs are the way forward for cyclo-cross, allowing consistent braking throughout the race while your competitors cantilever pads get worn away by the grit and grime, leading to cheeky position grabbing out-braking into corners and of course your expensive deep section carbon rims also last longer.

The Kinesium frame, an enhanced 6000 series aluminium alloy – claimed to be 25% stronger than 6061 at the same weight level – has been designed specifically with cyclo-cross racing in mind. Kinesis reason that cyclo-cross is the only cycle sport where the rider deliberately touches the frame so have concentrated on the tactile aspects of the Pro6. The downtube isn’t oversized and doesn’t have any on-trend funky tube profiling, making it easier to grab with a muddy carrying hand and there’s less tube area for heavy wet mud to stick to, but to keep the strength up there’s a gusset at the head-tube junction.

The ‘Ergo2′ top-tube slopes only ever so slightly, leaving room aplenty inside the frame triangle for a shoulder, and the underside is flattened for comfier carrying, with the transition from flat to round kept fluid so there’s no sharp edges to dig into a shoulder-blade. Cables run along the right-hand side of the top-tube, away from your neck when carrying and stops are designed to take a full outer cable for maximum mud and water resistance or a hydraulic hose.

Chain and seatstays are straight for direct power transfer – a cyclo-cross bike isn’t meant to be comfortable – the right-hand chainstay is Kinesis’s ‘A-Stay’ and rear clearance looks good despite the chainstay bridge. The bottom-bracket is somewhere between a traditionally high CX height, a hang-over from the days when racers wanted ground clearance for a dangling toe-clip and strap, and a low road BB height as Kinesis figure you still need some pedal clearance for ruts and roots. The tapered head-tube has been kept short and low because ‘cross racers don’t want a star-gazey front end: it’s an hour’s hard race, not a genteel sportive.

The Pro 6 comes in Metallic Black, Tech White or Deep Red colour choices, each with a matching fork, and even the subtly metallic paint has thinking behind it, Kinesis say that as there are more layers of paint needed to create the effect it means the finish is tougher and more resistant to the pointy elbows and marker posts of ‘cross racing. Showing further thought the supplied bottle-cage and rack bolts are shallow domed rather than the usual proud allen bolts that can rip into a lycra jersey, or skin. The seat-tube accepts a 27.2 seatpost, because it’s what’s most likely to be in people’s shed, fitting in with the “built up from spares” ethos of most CX bikes and the bottom-bracket is threaded, flying in the face of the plague of integrated BB standards for the very same reason.

The Pro 6 frame comes with a 'CXD' full-carbon 1-1/8">1.5" tapered headtube fork weighing 500g. The fork has a post-mount for the disc, is eyeleted at the dropouts and rear of the crown and neatly includes disc-hose clip on the left-hand blade.

Handling the tricky lever-cable-to-hydraulic-caliper braking duties is the TRP Parabox unit that hides under the stem, feel at the lever was reassuringly positive, but the bike couldn’t be ridden to get an idea of how the brake felt on the move, or on the stop, as it had no pedals and more essentially the tubs weren’t actually glued on, which was a shame as it’s the first time a Parabox unit has appeared on a bike in the UK.

You’ll be able to see this sweet build Pro 6 this weekend at the Cycle Show in the NEC, where you can also stroke it’s new Reynolds Assault carbon CX disc wheels for the first time as well as sniff the bike’s new Oval saddle and rub the tread off the new FMB Super Mud tyres.

An easy return to the hole

These workhorses have dozens of wet and dry uses. They are able to physically locate utilities – such as gas, electric, water, phone, cable, and fibre optic lines – more safely using vacuum excavation.

The machines can also remove directional drilling mud or slurry, prevent frac-outs and pull a dart, mouse or pig through conduits to install utilities safely.

Vac-Tron’s Air Series is great for vacuuming out retention ponds, excavating small rocks and dry sand, and cleaning up non-hazardous emergency road spills. The machine can clean out areas as diverse as storm drains, lift stations, manholes, meter boxes, laterals, car wash pits and grain silos.

The Air Series comes mounted on a heavy-duty trailer with torsion axles, or can be truck-mounted for mobility. A six-way hydraulic boom and remote debris trap are optional.

Return dry spoils to the ground while potholing

Want to manage dry spoils and return them to the hole as quickly as possible without moving your Air Series machine? The Remote Debris Trap can capture the dry spoils and only air travels back.

Use the remote trap to collect dry material and the main debris tank for wet. When the remote debris tank is full or the job is done, position the pivot arm over the hole and easily dump the debris back into the hole – without moving the machine or using a shovel or backhoe.

Gravity-feed liquid materials from the remote trap into drums for storage and/or transportation. The pivot arm moves easily from the rear of the tank to both sides of the machine, and also supports the remote suction hose for ease of use.

Back to basic court!

The Senta Municipal Assembly last meeting of the members accepted the proposal for a decision under which initiated the Zentai Primary Court to restore order to Zenta and other officers along the towns residents do not have to constantly Subotica travel for legal affairs, because so much time and money. The subject experts say, because of the Tisza is a natural geographical unit, and citizens living in the region need to assert their rights, the court will see restoration feasible, provided there is political will to do so.
The Senta is a court building in Subotica, Senta Court Orders Base Unit works, so the earlier part of the implementation of activities, extra-judicial proceedings, civil lawsuits may continue to remain in Senta. The proportion of criminal justice, however, entirely moved to Subotica. And this is precisely what the main problem is caused by the public, since a procedure several times forced to travel to Subotica. In you want to change the Senta municipality by the Municipal Assembly of the Hungarian Civic Alliance proposal adopted the initiative, under which initiates the primary court to restore the activity of which three officers saved the village, Ada, Magyarkanizsa and Senta municipality hug up.
If the authorities listened to our request with a great assist in Senta and the neighborhood residents to explain our paper Commenting Racz, Laszlo Szabo, the initiative proposer of the Municipal Assembly President, adding the government is the public position of ease, as if the people arrange their affairs with the smallest Subotica always have to go, lots of travel and additional costs. As the representative body operating under the legal issues committee chairman said he had a case, when a total of eighteen people traveled Zenta Subotica, including the judge, assessor, public prosecutor as well. Everyone was Senta, Subotica was the scene of the trial only. However, Senta anyway, it should be maintained in the court building, so the recovery would not have almost no extra cost. I think not only in the three villages will benefit by being re-establish basic courts, but also its Subotica, as well tehermentesíthetnénk with the local court explained László Rácz Szabó.
The initiative Famous Ivan's lawyer, Senta court the former leader is fully in agreement, even as worded, specifically necessary for the court to restore the primary idea in his view already expressed when the reform was announced, but it still did not add the appropriate political power.
Judicial settlements along the Tisza, a forensic level of linking the inevitable step because of current judicial network is not at all rational. A lot of citizens in judicial proceedings must Subotica travel costs and a significant loss of time explaining to them famous Ivan, who said that the initiative is completely unrealistic idea. As we know, the Tisza is a natural geographical unit, which is why there is a need for citizens to assert their rights, so I feel like I restore any case, the court is possible.

Aircraft recovery in Greenland has Ovid connection

A California team's plan to recover a P-38 fighter aircraft entombed under hundreds of feet of glacial snow and ice in Greenland is under way.

If all goes well, the team hopes to have a P-38 wreck located by next weekend, Ken McBride, the team leader, said in an e-mail. Recovery of the plane, he added, might be possible by the second or third week in September.

McBride cautioned, "many factors can alter the plan." He cited weather as an example, mechanical issues with airplanes and shipping companies sometimes falling behind schedule.

Team members will search for a wreck site using a Wilga 80, an aircraft acquired in Texas and equipped with a radar detection probe. That plane was due at the Ovid Airport Saturday or Sunday, June 25 or 26.

The Wilga's windshield had to be replaced and other repairs made. "Came out very nice," McBride said, "but took six full days!" The search began then for skis for the plane, with team members following up on a lead in Poland and another on the East Coast.

"We have a tentative lease deal on so, hopefully, between the two we'll come up with a set. They are harder to find than expected," McBride said.

Another plane that figures prominently in the recovery plan is a Russian built Antonov AN-2, housed at the Ovid Airport. The single-engine bi-plane, noted for its good field performance and use on short, unimproved runways, could begin its Greenland flight around July 9 or 10. It would be used to ferry men and equipment to the crash site from a base station.

John King, owner of the Ovid Airport, said McBride was here in February to test the AN-2's performance on skis. All went well, he said. And despite the cold weather, "she started right up."

The recovery team launched its Greenland plans last year with most of the summer season spent at the Ovid Airport readying for the trip. But delays forced McBride to call off the trip with Greenland's winter weather closing in.

Six P-38s and two B-17 bombers left Presque Isle Air Base in Maine en route to Great Britain on July 15, 1942. The pilots were to fly southeast over the ice cap and the mountains of Greenland, cross the Denmark Strait and proceed to Reykjavik, Iceland.

At 12,000 feet, the aircraft encountered a heavy blanket of fog. As conditions worsened, the pilots, with fuel running low, opted to land on the east coast of Greenland and had to abandon their planes there. The crewmen were all safely rescued. One of the six P-38s was recovered in 1992 and is in use today as Glacier Girl.

The Glacier Girl recovery team used a thermal meltdown generator to melt the ice and a thermal pump and hose system were used to keep the area free of water. The recovered P-38 was lying 268 feet below the surface of snow and ice. Men armed with steam hoses were lowered into the hole to create a cave surrounding the airplane and work continued for about a month.

Problem is 'more hydraulic than mechanical'

Q: We have a manual transmission 2000 Honda Civic with 36,000 kilometres. The car is well maintained: a complete tune-up twice a year. Recently, we drove on Highway 15 toward Montreal at 90 km/h. To give precedence to a car entering the highway, I lightly applied the brakes. To my astonishment, the brake pedal was all loose and went completely down to the floor. I changed fast into first gear to slow the car down and applied the handbrake. The mechanic at our garage replaced the brakes, but it seems nobody can explain how -without any warning -they could completely fail.

Do you have any explanation?

- Margrit Gluckman

A: Both mechanics we spoke with suggest a problem with the master cylinder could be to blame.

"The problem here seems to be more hydraulic than mechanical," said Marc Lebrun, co-owner of Total Auto Service in Pierrefonds."Afailureinthe brake pads or discs will not cause the pedal to go down completely to the floor. However, a leak in the hose or malfunction of the caliper or wheel cylinder will cause the pedal to go to the floor."

Pierre Brunet, a co-owner of Autotech Performance, also in Pierrefonds, says he has seen this happen before.

"A failure in the master cylinder would cause that type of problem," he said.

He provided the following steps to help determine what the issue could be: "Try,without the car running, applying the brake. Put your foot down and moderate the pressure between firm and loose to see if the brake pedal will not sink. If it does sink, it's time to condemn the master cylinder," Brunet said.

He added that even if the mechanic who repaired your car could not give you a reason for the brake failure, and if the pedal did sink in the test, you would be better off replacing the master cylinder for "your peace of mind."

Lebrun also had another suggestion.

"Given the age of the car,I would recommend a brake flush to clean out the hydraulic system," Lebrun said.

"Lastly, I would like to add that a complete tune-up does not necessarily mean that the brake hydraulics were verified."

Martha Stewart gets silly with Conan O'Brien, Seth Meyers

Martha Stewart’s cooking up some comedy with Conan O’Brien and Seth Meyers on “Martha

Stewart Presents: Men Who Make Us Laugh” (7 p.m. March 27, Hallmark Channel; *** out of

four).

Stewart sits down with O'Brien on the set of his TBS talk show, “Conan,” for a surprisingly

serious discussion about his career ups and especially the recent downs when NBC threw him

under the bus to bring Jay Leno back to “The Tonight Show.”

But O’Brien also cracks up, taking Stewart on a tour of the studio and explaining how his

make-up artists work.

“What you can’t see is the hose,” he jokes. “They fire a hose of flesh tone at me.” (He

also offers up the “recipe” he uses to keep his famous pompadour so tall.)

On Conan O'Brien's make-up and hair routine
CO: This is where they put 60 pounds of make-up.
MS: Wow, from that little tiny table? It doesn’t look like a lot of make-up.
CO: What you can’t see is the hose. They fire a hose of flesh tone at me.
MS: Your hair is done here too?
CO: My hair is actually done in a separate engineering room were we have a lot of hydraulic hose

machinery.

On O'Brien's famous hairstyle
CO: I had this hairstyle going back to eighth grade. And yes I was mocked, I was hit, I was

beaten.
MS: But mom went with it too.
CO: No, mom mocked and hit and beat me.

On O'Brien's dark side
CO: I kid Martha, that’s what I do. I joke, I jest.
MS: But it always has a dark side to it. You’re never dark with you’re children, are you?
CO: At night. Just before bedtime I usually tell them we’re only here for a small amount of

time. No one really knows what happens after we die. Have a good night’s sleep. So they’re

both getting a lot of therapy now.

Meyers is the focus of the hour-long special’s second half. The “Saturday Night Live” head

writer and “Weekend Update” anchor travels to Stewart’s Connecticut farm, where he

attempts to help her with her chores, with hilarious results.

A clip reel provided by Hallmark (above) makes the Meyers interview seem more silly than

revealing, but Stewart does expose more about the funnyman who went to Northwestern

University and got his comedy start at iO in Chicago. (Click this link to see another version

of Meyers' sneak peek. Go to Page 2, "Men Who make Us Laugh.")

On Seth Meyers' and Martha Stewart's jobs
MS: So I would think it would be kind of hard to wake up every morning and know that you have

to be funny. I mean, that’s my feeling.
SM: Right. I would feel like it would be hard to wake up every morning and know you had to

make something in the kitchen. So it’s good we’re doing what we’re doing.

On Meyers' favorite co-stars
MS: Who else do you like working with on Saturday Night Live.  Everybody?  Do you like

everybody on the show?
SM: I like everybody. I really do like everybody. Yeah. Oh, except for Andy Samberg, I don’t

like him. Thank you for reminding me, I do not care for Andy Samberg. He’s like my

archenemy.

On Meyers' salary
MS: Do you make a lot of money doing “Saturday Night Live”?
SM: You can’t believe how much money I make. I mean like, it’s not a contest, but we are

way closer than you think, you and I (looks around). My stables slightly bigger I guess. Yeah

I make tons of money, tons of money.

On Meyers' taking Brian William's job
MS: Would you like to host a late night talk show?
SM: I want Brian William’s job. I don’t want to lie to you. Not because I think I’d be

good at it but I just think it would really burn him if I pushed him out. That’s my goal

FD3 recieves $57,069 grant

St. Tammany Fire District 3 recently purchased six new hydraulic hose reels and five

new extrication tools with $57,069 provided by the Assistance to Firefighter Grant

and the Department of Homeland Security.

The money allowed FD3 to outfit each of its rescue units with 300 feet of hydraulic

hose line.

Extrication tools (cutters, spreaders "jaws of life" and ram) are each supplied by

100 feet of hose line. Hose reels will make for a quick deployment of extrication

tools to the person or persons trapped.

Funding for professional installation of these hose reels is included in the grant. A

new set of extrication tools replaced the outdated and smaller equipment previously

housed on the department's Rescue 31.

Two battery operated hydraulic cutters/spreaders were also purchased to be placed on

a second and third ambulance.

These tools allow EMS to quickly extricate trapped patients if a rescue unit is not

available on scene.  FD3 personnel tested this new equipment during our monthly

training evolution in February.
